Khichdi Simpleton with Moong Dal

Moong Dal Khichdi is a simple basic khichdi which can be had when your stomach is upset. Moong Beans are healthy and easy to digest so they are also recommended in small babies and Elderly people diet. Khichdi is a staple food of the Ayurvedic diet. Apart from calming the body and detoxifying it, the ingredients in khichdi also have the perfect balance of the basic elements required to improve energy, immunity and digestion.

  1. Rinse and wash Moong Dal and Rice together. Soak both of them for 30 Minutes in water.
  2. Heat 2 Tbsp Ghee or Oil in Pressure Cooker, add cumin seeds, when cumin splutters then add Onions.
  3. Saute Onions till translucent. No need to make onions Brown.
  4. Once the onions becomes translucent, then add tomatoes, green chili and ginger.
  5. Stir and add turmeric powder and asafoetida. Saute till the tomatoes softens.
  6. Drain the Rice and Moong dal and add them to the pressure cooker.
  7. Stir for a minute, pour with water and season with salt.
  8. Close the lid tightly and pressure cook on high flame for 6-7 whistles.
  9. If the Khichdi becomes too thick, then add some water and stir well.
  10. Keep on Low flame to simmer the khichdi till you get the right consistency.
  11. Once the Khichdi is cooked then add it with ghee while serving.
  12. Serve Moong dal khichdi with curd and accompanying with Salad.
